Goran Buldioski can look back on three decades of commitment to the support of civil-social structures, including the rule of law, freedom of the press and the protection of minorities. He is the director of the Open Society Foundations Berlin Hub Office and Co-Director of the Open Society Initiative For Europe (OSIFE). Open Society Foundations was founded by George Soros and supports human rights initiatives. With a global budget of one billion US dollars, Open Society Foundations is the world’s biggest private philanthropic donor. In 2018, the foundation moved its European headquarters from Budapest to Berlin, on account of increased pressure from prime minister Viktor Orbán and his government.
